The advert explains itself.

 

But notice MC61; this was the pole or stand allocated to John Marland at the Manchester Cotton Exchange on Tuesday of each week. This was the day that the mill owners would all go to Manchester to meet and hopefully gain orders for cloth to keep the mills running I can just remember the chauffeur-driven cars taking them to the Railway Station.

   
The other two pictures are of John Marland's Home in Todmorden, Birks Cottage.

Later it became the home of the physicist Sir John Cockcroft, as it says on the blue plaque by the door
