p.104 Hamlet of Hartshead
Brown Edge, from whence a sand is obtained of superior quality and
whiteness. There is a small farm which lies on the border of this
uncultivated edge, occupied by Mr George Marland, whose family have long
been dealers in the article of sand.

Twirl Hill or Twarl Hill is situated on the left, on an ancient part of
the building are the initials I.M.E. with the date 1723. It is occupied
by Mr Obadiah Marland, who according to his own account, he has struck out
some original ideas in mechanism. [sic]
p111 Hamlet of Hyrst, or Hurst
Cocks of the Oaks and Broadoak, contains forty-four acres under the
assessment of 1618; they appear to have belonged to Thomas Cock and
Roger Marland
