Marland hamlet, in the Roch valley, Lancashire (1½ miles downstream from Rochdale town).

From a survey map of 1851, in Rochdale Library.

At this date the Mere had become a marsh, but we have coloured it to suggest its original extent. It has now been partly restored as an ornamental lake, and the drive survives as a park pathway.  Marland Mere house, however, has completely disappeared.
